Fall Semester – Cuatro Classes at AMLA
Celebrate the rich traditions of Puerto Rican music with AMLA’s Fall Semester Cuatro Festival! This semester-long program invites students and community members to experience the magic of the Puerto Rican cuatro — the island’s national instrument — through hands-on learning, interactive workshops, and vibrant performances.
Throughout the semester, participants will:
Learn to Play the Cuatro – Beginner and intermediate students receive step-by-step instruction from master cuatrista Jorge Burgos.
Explore Puerto Rican Musical Heritage – Each class incorporates cultural context, listening sessions, and discussions about the history and evolution of the cuatro and its role in Puerto Rican folkloric and popular music.
Develop Ensemble Skills – Students rehearse and perform together, learning to blend melodies, harmonies, and rhythms in a collaborative setting.
Prepare for a Semester Showcase – The semester culminates in a live performance where students share their progress with family, friends, and the community, celebrating their hard work and growth.
The Fall Semester Cuatro Festival is a joyful and supportive environment where students not only gain musical skills but also deepen their connection to Puerto Rican culture and identity. Whether you’re taking your first steps with the instrument or building on existing experience, this program offers a meaningful opportunity to unleash your inner Boricua folclórico!
