Welcome to the Classical Guitar Class for Youth at Artists & Musicians of Latin America (AMLA), a dynamic after-school program in collaboration with the prestigious Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. Our classes, starting the first week of March 2024, are FREE and designed to introduce young minds to the enchanting world of classical guitar while fostering a deep appreciation for Latin American musical heritage. Students do not need to own a guitar; the class will offer a student Guitar on loan from the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society.
Overview:
This classical guitar class is specifically tailored for beginners and intermediate students, ages 10 to 16, eager to embark on a musical journey. Led by experienced instructors who are passionate about nurturing young talent, this program is a gateway to exploring the rich traditions of classical guitar.
Curriculum:
- Fundamentals of Guitar Technique:
– Proper hand positioning and posture.
– Basic fingerpicking techniques.
– Introduction to essential music theory.
- Repertoire Exploration:
– Dive into various classical guitar pieces, including compositions from Latin American composers.
- Music Theory and Sight-Reading:
– Develop a solid understanding of music theory as it applies to classical guitar.
– Acquire the ability to read sheet music fluently.
- Ensemble Playing:
– Collaborate with fellow students to play ensemble pieces, fostering teamwork and musical camaraderie.
- Performance Opportunities:
– Showcase your progress through regular recitals within the AMLA community and potentially at events organized by the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society.
Application Process:
- We are accepting a limited number of registrations (14 spots available).
- No prior experience is required, making it an inclusive opportunity for all skill levels.
- Guitars will be provided if students do not have their own.
Commitment:
- Participants are expected to attend all sessions in person.
- A dedication to consistent practice outside of class is encouraged.
