Join AMLA’s Classical Guitar Program – Spring Semester 2025
We’re thrilled to announce that registration is open for AMLA’s Classical Guitar Program for the Spring Semester! This program introduces students to the fundamentals of classical guitar with a special emphasis on Latin American music.
Updated Start Date: Classes begin the week of January 28, 2025 to accommodate our instructor Emanuel Pardo’s international performance schedule.
Schedule:
- Tuesdays: Beginner Classes, 4-6 PM
- Thursdays:
- Intermediate & Advanced Classes, 4-5 PM
- Ensemble (all students), 5-6 PM
Classes run through June 5, 2025, offering students a comprehensive and engaging experience in classical guitar technique, repertoire, and ensemble playing.

We are thrilled to invite young musicians to the Classical Guitar Class for Youth at Artists & Musicians of Latin America (AMLA), presented in collaboration with the prestigious Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. This FREE after-school program introduces students to the captivating world of classical guitar while exploring the vibrant Latin American musical heritage. Guitars will be provided for those who do not own one, so all you need is your enthusiasm and love for music!
Class Schedule:
- Tuesdays:
- 4:00 – 5:00 PM – Advanced Students
- 5:00 – 6:00 PM – Beginners & Intermediate Students
- Thursdays:
- 4:00 – 5:00 PM – Beginners & Intermediate Students
- 5:00 – 6:00 PM – Full Ensemble (All levels)

Curriculum Highlights:
Fundamentals of Guitar Technique
- Learn proper hand positioning and posture.
- Master fingerpicking techniques and guitar basics.
- Gain a solid understanding of music theory.
Repertoire Exploration
- Explore a variety of classical guitar pieces, with a focus on compositions from Latin American composers.
Music Theory and Sight-Reading
- Develop a foundation in music theory as it applies to classical guitar.
- Learn to read and perform from sheet music.
Ensemble Playing
- Participate in ensemble sessions where students of all levels come together to perform, encouraging teamwork and a shared musical experience.
Performance Opportunities:
Throughout the program, students will have the chance to showcase their progress in recitals at AMLA and may also be invited to perform at events organized by the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society.
Application Process:
Open to students of all skill levels, with no prior experience required. Guitars will be provided for those who need one. Enrollment is limited to 14 students, so early registration is encouraged.
Commitment:
Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes in person and dedicate time to practicing outside of class to enhance their learning experience.
